CNC Machinist with Set-Up Expertise

At HORST ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO, we are looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. As a Machinist/Set-Up Operator (Grinding), you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of manufactured parts and assisting other operators with set-up or production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and operate pinch/peel grinders, milling machines, and laser markers, as well as quality inspection equipment.
  • Work from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers, and specifications to ensure accurate production.
  • Check materials to ensure they meet specifications and obtain bar stock or material from a staging area as needed.
  • Assist other Operators or Set-up/Operators with set-up or production problems and help train others.
  • Make adjustments to machinery, load and edit programs, and obtain tooling, gages, inserts, and other necessary equipment.
  • Ensure all manufactured parts meet quality standards and perform visual inspections and dimensional verification as required.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling and verify and record the actual part count before and after production.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, maintain fluid levels, and keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Return excess bar stock or material to the staging area and pack and wash/preserve parts as needed.
  • Move finished work to an assigned area, enter work performed in the database, and document scrap.
  • Notify the lead person or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.
  • Perform other machining and assembly operations as needed and maintain 5S in the cell area.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of increasingly diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment, with medical/aerospace experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and a proactive problem solver.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills and a demonstrated sense of urgency.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills and the ability to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications, and Company/Customer paperwork.
  • Ability to read and edit CNC programs and experience with Swiss turn operations a plus.
  • Technical school training for CNC Machining a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods and walk long distances through the building.
  • Ability to push/pull/carry/lift up to 50 lbs.
