Job Summary

Custer County is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a key member of our Highway Department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our county roads and bridges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, loaders, and graders, to perform road maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles.
  • Clear brush and trees from roads and right-of-ways.
  • Remove snow and ice from county roads.
  • Perform sign maintenance and installation.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Highway Superintendent.
Requirements
  • Valid South Dakota Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment and performing road maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in a physically demanding environment.
Working Conditions

This position requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. You will also be required to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
