Primary Purpose and Objectives of the Role

The Shift Leader (SL) is an hourly role that supports management in daily administrative and operational functions within the establishment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring exceptional customer service
  • Upholding company standards in product quality and facility maintenance
  • Monitoring food safety practices
  • Evaluating operational workflows


The human resources duties of a Shift Leader are primarily focused on training crew members and providing continuous coaching and feedback to hourly staff.

Additionally, the Shift Leader may take full responsibility for the opening and closing of the establishment in the absence of management.

In such cases, the Shift Leader maintains operational control but is not authorized to act in a managerial capacity.


Core Responsibilities

Customer Satisfaction/Product Quality

  • Delivers prompt, accurate service, fosters positive guest interactions, and ensures products meet company quality benchmarks.
  • Conducts regular food safety inspections.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and feedback to team members regarding customer service, product quality, and service speed.

Financial Accountability

  • Shares daily responsibilities with the management team regarding cash handling procedures, including deposits, change-making, safe operations, and drawer verification.

Operational Duties

  • Performs daily inventory checks, completes shift-to-shift food safety assessments, and prepares daily control documentation.
  • Reviews readiness of facilities and equipment.
  • Monitors inventory levels, food preparation, and order fulfillment daily to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Tracks service speed performance and addresses bottlenecks to meet service goals.
  • In the absence of management, oversees food and supply deliveries and the establishment's opening and closing procedures.

Human Resources Functions

  • Provides continuous coaching and feedback for crew members.
  • Delivers practical training for crew in designated training areas.
