Job Summary

This is a permanent position with the U.S. Department of the Interior, offering a range of benefits and opportunities for career growth. As a Custodial Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of park facilities, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash. You will also be required to operate light-duty motor vehicles and perform various maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate light-duty motor vehicles to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.
  • Perform custodial and janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash.
  • Operate powered wall washing machines and/or by hand to wash walls.
  • Use heavy vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, and other surfaces.
  • Adjust, clean, and oil machines and change brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments.
  • Move heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • A copy of your State Driver's License must be submitted with your application package for verification purposes.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • You will be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or have completed a formal vocational training program.
Qualifications
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
  • Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles).
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
  • Dexterity and Safety.
  • Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order).
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
