Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Care Services Provider to join our team at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. As a key member of our sports medicine team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to our athletes, including evaluating and treating illnesses and injuries, developing and executing case management plans, and participating in the daily care of athletes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Healthcare Services (70%)
    • Evaluate and treat illnesses and medical conditions, acute, subacute, and chronic injuries, and develop and execute case management plans.
    • Order and/or review diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests as necessary for athlete health and performance in coordination with the sports medicine and sports performance teams.
    • Perform as a high-performance medical team member and participate in the functions and activities essential to clinic operations. Refer to and accept referrals from healthcare team members, including physicians, chiropractors, physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, sports dietitians, USOPC Sports Performance staff, etc.
    • Participate in the daily care of athletes, including performance enhancement and injury and illness prevention, evaluation, and treatment using biometric and epidemiologic data when appropriate. Promptly communicate significant injury and illness to USOPC Sports Medicine leadership.
    • Work with Sports Medicine staff to develop return-to-play plans for athletes sustaining significant illnesses or injuries.
    • Maintain knowledge of up-to-date techniques in enhancing sport performance and preventing illnesses and injuries in athletes.
    • Provide patient management under licensure, scope of practice, standards of care, physician supervision requirements, and functions of individual professional licensure permitted by State law. Maintain continuous compliance with medical and legal requirements for the states of employment and any other states where the individual provides or supports the USOPC or NGBs at sporting events or assigned activities.
    • Maintain medical records, including recording and entering all patient athlete medical interactions and related data into the electronic health record system in a complete and timely manner.
    • Maintain compliance with IOC, WADA, USADA, and the Olympic Code.
    • Assist with the review and approval of USOP Medical Network referrals and Medical Assistance Fund requests as directed by the USOPC Chief Medical Officer.
    • Provide clinical guidance and collaboration with volunteer and contracted physicians and sports medicine fellows in evaluating and treating ill and injured athletes.
    • Perform elite athlete health profiles (EAHP) as Sports Medicine leadership directs.
    • Review athlete health history screenings as directed by Sports Medicine leadership.
    • Communicate to high-performance teams and NGB staff, including coaches, the medical status of ill and injured athletes while maintaining appropriate compliance with medical privacy laws.
    • Assist in maintaining athlete illness and associated recovery program tracking and education.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining professional working relationships, including Sport Performance partners, NGBs, and outside parties.
  • Administrative (30%)
    • Work and/or consult with leadership on operational and clinical issues/strategies and facilitate implementation of case management strategies.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer to integrate the USOPC Medical Network and USOPC clinical services, including making and accepting referrals to USOPC Medical Network partners.
    • Provide for the effective and efficient utilization of financial resources, including maximizing the facilitation of appropriate case management strategies that utilize USOPC Medical Network clinical and human resources.
    • Assist with creating and implementing medical programs, work groups, expert panels, and task forces to support the effective and efficient provision of medical services, as directed by Sports Medicine leadership.
    • Assist in the planning and delivery of medical services at Games and/or international competitions, as directed by Sports Medicine leadership.
    • Participate in developing research studies, collecting and interpreting data, and disseminating research findings to the sports medicine community through presentations and publications as assigned.
    • Assist with developing and delivering educational programs for USOPC and NGB sports medicine staff, volunteers, and sports medicine fellows.
    • Assist with supervision of learners (e.g., students, residents, and fellows), as directed by Sports Medicine leadership.
    • Coordinate and execute special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Physician Assistant Master's or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
  • 5 years of clinical experience in a primary care setting after licensure or certification.
  • 3 years of experience evaluating, treating, and preventing illnesses and injuries for a variety of athletes and sports.
  • Experience working with elite athletes and providing medical coverage for sports events preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience.
  • Certification in related specialty.
  • State Licensure for state of employment.
  • Current Health Care Provider CPR certification.
  • Licensure in Athletic Training preferred.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist preferred.
  • Current certification in Anti-Doping Training within 30 days of start date.
  • Current certification in SafeSport Training within 30 days of start date.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including medical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office computer programs.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population including but not limited to USOPC Clinicians, athletes - both Olympic and Paralympic, coaches, administrative staff, physicians, volunteers, and other medical personnel.
  • Continuously comply with standards of care, including local, state, and federal health and safety standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain skill sets to include Blood Borne Pathogen, emergency procedures, and sports-related concussion training to include the supervision and training of junior staff.
  • Knowledge in the areas of:
    • Standard sports medicine procedures (e.g., aspirations, injections, suturing, onychectomy, auricular perichondral hematoma drainage).
    • Injury/illness prevention, evaluation, and treatment.
    • Rehabilitation of athletic injuries and post-surgical care.
    • Return to play decision-making.
    • Sports performance enhancement.
    • Emergency medicine skills.
    • Splitting and casting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience leading projects is preferred.

  • Must maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential job function.

Hiring Pay Range: $97,225 - $125,000 per year.

This full-time, exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.

Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program with a 15% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
