POSITION OVERVIEW

The Cardiac Sonography Specialist is responsible for conducting high-quality echocardiographic examinations on both adult and pediatric patients who may have known or suspected cardiac conditions. The scope of these examinations encompasses various techniques, including M-mode, 2-Dimensional Echocardiography, 3-Dimensional Echocardiography strain, Color Doppler, Transesophageal Echocardiography, Exercise Stress Echocardiography, and Pharmacological Stress Echocardiography, as well as stress tests and holter/event recorder applications as necessary. Limited transthoracic echo (TTE) for TAVR in Hybrid room may also be performed.

This role includes essential clerical duties to support physician assessments and maintain departmental records. The specialist must demonstrate proficient technical skills in executing both STAT and routine echocardiology procedures, adhering to established procedural standards and protocols. Patient care is tailored to meet procedural requirements and individual patient needs, under the guidance of the lab's Medical Director and the Non-Invasive Cardiology Management Team, all within established departmental protocols. A commitment to maintaining a well-organized, safe, and efficient work environment is essential. Participation in the department's quality assurance program and accreditation processes is expected. The specialist will also assist in training new staff and contribute to ongoing professional development and skill enhancement. Flexibility to perform cross-training in additional cardiology procedures is required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion certificate from an accredited institution in Echocardiography.
  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS, RDCS). If not registered, successful completion of the Registry exam by CCI or ARDMS must be achieved within one year of employment.
  • Preferred minimum of one year of experience in Echocardiography.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Cardiac sonographers will have the opportunity to participate in the department's Echo to Vascular Cross-Training Program at the expense of the organization, contingent upon agreement to the outlined training terms.
