Job Title: Radiation Therapy Specialist
Job Summary:
DHR Health is seeking a skilled Radiation Therapy Specialist to join our team. As a Radiation Therapy Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting in the localization procedures, obtaining patient contours, and outlining anatomical structures and target volumes in three dimensions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in localization procedures using CT or conventional radiographic techniques.
- Obtain patient contours and assist in outlining anatomical structures and target volumes in three dimensions.
- Discuss with the physician the aim of the treatment, including planned tumor dose and maximum acceptable doses to normal tissue.
- Generate isodose distributions via computer and perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose.
- Present these to the physician and discuss alternatives.
- Label plans with anatomical directions.
- Participate in continuing education in the area of current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry.
- Calculate required treatment time or monitor setting for delivery of prescribed dose.
- Prepare treatment aids and beam modifying devices, including head holders, molds, shields, cradles, compensators, and others as needed.
- Assist in routine quality control program to include weekly chart checks, chart rounds, etc.
- Follows the dose prescription specified by the radiation oncologist, plans a treatment technique by means of computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume.
- Provide technical assistance to the therapeutic radiological physicist when requested in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation therapy equipment.
Requirements:
- Be in an Accredited Medical Dosimetry Program.
- Be a Certified Radiation Therapist.
- Five (5) years experience in Radiation Therapy required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to read, write and speak English required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration and physicians.
Working Conditions:
The individual spends over 95% of their time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III.
