POSITION SUMMARY
The Indirect Tax Analyst will report directly to the Indirect Tax Manager and will play a crucial role in managing multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax, as well as ad valorem tax matters across various entities. This role encompasses compliance activities, general ledger reconciliations, tax research, resolution of vendor and customer tax inquiries, audit support, maintenance of tax automation systems, special projects, and other administrative responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation, submission, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns.
- Support ad valorem tax research, filings, and payments.
- Organize and archive copies of all notices, tax returns, payments, and supporting documentation.
- Provide assistance with general ledger tax account reconciliations.
- Manage customer exemption certificate issues and maintenance across multiple entities.
- Conduct research on sales and use tax laws, regulations, and policies.
- Review invoices, purchase orders, and contracts to determine taxability for a diverse range of transactions.
- Assist in addressing taxability or procedural inquiries from various internal teams.
- Maintain the indirect tax calendar, including deadlines for renditions, valuation notices, and tax payments.
- Support sales and use tax audits through data preparation, reconciliations, sampling, research, documentation requests, and negotiations with auditors.
- Prepare sales and use tax registrations for new jurisdictions.
- Communicate with tax authorities regarding notices and other matters.
- Contribute to the implementation of process improvements for transaction tax.
- Handle various administrative tasks and special projects as required.
Knowledge:
A solid understanding of multi-state sales and use tax compliance, audits, laws, and regulations is essential. Experience with ad valorem tax is advantageous. Familiarity with Oracle, Sabrix, or similar systems is beneficial.
Skills:
- Proficiency in using online state tax research systems, preferably Thomson Reuters Checkpoint.
- Strong data management capabilities; adept at auditing, formatting, modeling, and analyzing extensive data sets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to identify and address critical issues effectively; utilize knowledge of sound business and technical operations practices; work efficiently under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Committed to delivering high-quality results punctually, with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; capable of understanding both broad implications and intricate details of events.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and projects accurately and in a timely manner.
- Detail-oriented with effective time management and organizational skills.
- Proven track record of identifying issues and recommending process improvements to address root causes.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory. CPA license or CMI designation is preferred.
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience in sales and use tax is required. Ad valorem tax experience is a plus.

- Work is conducted in a standard office setting, subject to time constraints and pressures. Tasks often depend on input from others.
