Job Summary

The Shift Supervisor is a key member of the Parkhurst Dining team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the dining service department. This includes supervising team members, ensuring food quality and service standards, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise team members in their area of responsibility, providing guidance and coaching as needed.
  • Consult with management to make changes to improve services and maintain high standards.
  • Follow established Parkhurst and client policies and procedures, upholding standards for food quality, service, sanitation, and cash handling.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management, using Smile Plus skills and coaching on hospitality imperatives.
  • Assist in purchasing foods and supplies, maintaining inventory and ordering as needed.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction levels, resolving problems and communicating findings to management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, following human resource policies and procedures.
  • Participate in hiring, performance appraisal, and discipline of staff under management oversight.
  • Orient and train staff, presenting in-service training programs as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, holding team meetings to ensure awareness of department activities and changes in policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for team members, maintaining standards for appearance, dress, attendance, and professional behavior.
  • Enforce safety standards, reporting safety problems to management.
  • Ensure sanitation standards are enforced, monitoring cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain morale on their shift, resolving team member conflicts and promoting a sense of urgency and professionalism.
  • May assist in planning and executing catered events, working with other team members as needed.
  • May open and close the department, demonstrating responsibility for department security.
  • Perform hands-on tasks as required by the operation.
  • Maintain a plan for self-development and professional growth.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of professional experience, with 4+ years in a food service role.
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Culinary, Hospitality Management, Business, or related field preferred, or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to organize workloads and meet time deadlines.
  • Supervisory and team management skills desirable.
