Critical Care Physician Assistant

The Hackensack Meridian Health Physician Assistant Trauma Service is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Critical Care Physician Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our critical care team, you will be responsible for managing a variety of patients in the critical care and intermediate care setting. You will work under the direction and supervision of the Surgical Intensivist to provide high-quality patient care and optimize patient safety.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with surgical intensivists, attending physicians, residents, and consulting physicians to deliver proficient care to critical care and intermediate care patients.
Provide coverage of the surgical and trauma ICU, working rotating shifts to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrate competency in performing all core functions and specialty functions as outlined in HUMC's delineation of clinical privileges for Critical Care Physician Assistants.
Assess, diagnose, and clinically manage patients in the critical care environment, with diagnoses such as cerebral edema, intracranial hypertension, traumatic brain injury, acute stroke, and more.
Request appropriate consultations with attending physicians and collaborate with them to develop patient care plans.
Attend and conduct information and formal meetings with patients' families, providing emotional support and education on patient care and treatment options.
Develop and implement patient education programs, promoting current clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based research.
Participate in critical care staff and patient/family education, developing educational materials and programs for house staff, nursing, technicians, and medical students.
Adhere to hospital infection control and safety policies and procedures, identifying opportunities for process improvements and making recommendations to optimize patient care.
Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program, accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
Master's degree.
Maintains PA delineation of clinical privileges for Critical Care via annual review.
AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification, and Physician Assistant License required. Certification by the National Commission for Certified Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) within one year of initial employment by the Medical Center preferred.
