The Recycling Operations Supervisor plays a pivotal role in the management of nonferrous processing activities at Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. Reporting to the Recycling Operations Manager, this position is crucial for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. The supervisor is tasked with overseeing the efficiency of nonferrous receiving operations, which includes the coordination of stockpiling, processing, and shipping activities to maximize profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensures adherence to safety protocols and regulations, creating a secure work environment for all personnel. Develops and implements safety training programs and standard operating procedures.
  • Operational Oversight: Directs daily operations, including the scheduling and management of equipment and personnel for optimal processing of nonferrous materials.
  • Inventory Management: Monitors incoming materials to ensure quality and quantity standards are met, maintaining accurate inventory records and conducting regular audits.
  • Quality Assurance: Implements quality control measures to ensure that all processed materials meet industry standards and contractual obligations.
  • Budget Management: Collaborates with financial partners to maintain accurate reporting and develop strategies to minimize inventory costs.
  • Team Leadership: Supervises and evaluates staff performance, ensuring compliance with company policies and fostering a productive work environment.
  • Special Projects: Engages in additional projects as assigned, contributing to the continuous improvement of operational processes.

This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of operational excellence. The supervisor will also be responsible for communicating effectively with various stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and compliance with company policies.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in the metal recycling industry. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a valid driver's license.
