Job Overview

The Fiber Optic Technician plays a crucial role in the preparation, fusion splicing, verification testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fiber optic cables. This position involves reviewing, creating, and maintaining splicing schematics and diagrams. The selected candidate will be responsible for keeping precise splicing and field notes while supporting project timelines. Additionally, the technician will conduct end-to-end OTDR testing, analyze test results for acceptable loss readings, and compile close-out packages that include photographs, formal loss results, and redlined schematic documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform termination, fusion splicing, and installation of various fiber optic connectors and enclosures, including both loose tube and ribbon fiber cables up to 288 count.
  • Ensure the security of the outside fiber plant (OSP) network, whether aerial or underground, within the designated area.
  • Execute mid-sheath/ring cut/midspan entry on cables without service interruption. Proficiently utilize fiber tools and testing equipment, including traffic meters, fusion splicers, power meters, VFL, and OTDR, employing EXFO Fast Reporter with IOLM Format.
  • Possess knowledge of relevant electronic equipment and specialized tools.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber efficiently and effectively.
  • Adhere to safety standards and procedures in compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as any higher standards set by Future Infrastructure or the customer.
  • Read, comprehend, and update splice documentation as necessary.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fiber optic telecommunications is required.
  • Fiber Optic Certification Training is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Capable of working at heights and in confined spaces, with the ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Hold a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English; bilingual skills are a plus.
