Your Role: As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist, you will oversee the daily upkeep of our facilities and animal habitats across multiple locations. You will take the initiative in planning, executing, and coordinating preventive maintenance and repair tasks on various mechanical, electrical, and installed systems. Collaboration with team members and external contractors will be essential to your success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all facilities in a clean, safe, and efficient condition.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on commercial electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Install and modify both new and existing equipment as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments within the organization.
  • Serve as a liaison for contractors working on-site.
  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry repairs and installations.
  • Troubleshoot emergencies and technical issues, organizing and resolving them as needed.
  • Proactively inspect facilities and report any findings or concerns to the Facility Manager.
  • Assist fellow maintenance staff with special projects requiring additional support.
  • Support janitorial staff during emergency situations.
  • Ensure that work areas and equipment are safe and functional.
  • Stay informed about local and federal OSHA regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to enhance the organization’s public image and improve the quality of life for animals.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are required:

  • Successful completion of a background check upon hire.
  • A minimum of 2 years of prior maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC-R systems, carpentry, electrical work, masonry, and plumbing repairs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of motors, small appliances, and both power and hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on routine tasks.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Capability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and internet navigation.
  • A valid California driver's license, Class C, or the ability to obtain one within the probationary period.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
