POSITION SUMMARY:

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Academic Adviser to join the Student Success Center team. The adviser will adhere to established principles and systems while executing the responsibilities of the role, typically working under direct supervision and following established procedures. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a commitment of 40 hours per week, offering comprehensive Penn State benefits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Delivering personalized and group academic guidance to students.
  • Acting as a designated academic adviser and managing a roster of students.
  • Helping students navigate university policies, procedures, and program curriculum requirements, supporting their degree progress, and guiding them through the exploratory process.
  • Documenting and maintaining confidential advising notes while ensuring the confidentiality of student records.
  • Monitoring student academic performance.
  • Preparing, coordinating, and presenting workshops and programs at the Student Success Center that foster academic achievement for undergraduate students.
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of New Student Orientation (NSO), which includes developing orientation materials, presenting academic information to students and families, advising incoming students, serving as a campus representative on the university orientation team, and managing event logistics.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in the Division of Undergraduate Studies to further student success initiatives.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment.
  • Establishing and implementing targeted advising strategies for students facing academic challenges.
  • Contributing to committees and working groups focused on student success, retention, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Providing support to faculty advisers regarding university policies and procedures.
  • Serving as a resource for faculty academic advisers, faculty, and students.
  • Participating in recruitment and retention efforts, including meetings with prospective students and families.
  • Assisting in maintaining an active digital presence for the Student Success Center, including web pages and social media accounts.
  • Resolving issues in accordance with the ethical and professional standards of the university and relevant professional organizations.
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master's degree and at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of clearances for Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Criminal Background Check prior to hire.
