Job Summary
The Code Compliance Officer performs specialized and technical duties related to the investigation of complaints, conducting inspections, and ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves preparing and presenting cases in legal settings based on the assigned area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
• Enforces and interprets county and state laws, regulations, and ordinances related to contractor licensing, providing guidance to contractors, property owners, and professionals.
• Aids in the formulation and revision of county ordinances based on field observations.
• Conducts proactive patrols to identify violations and remove unauthorized signage from public areas.
• Acts as a liaison among county divisions, contractors, and the public to rectify compliance issues.
• Addresses inquiries and complaints from various stakeholders, developing strategies to tackle community concerns, including educational initiatives.
• Maintains positive public relations by participating in community meetings and educating stakeholders on compliance matters.
• Utilizes a computer database to document violations, manage case information, and ensure data accuracy.
Compliance Duties
• Investigates and validates complaints regarding violations of county ordinances and codes, including vehicle regulations and property maintenance standards.
• Reviews construction plans and property documents to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
• Conducts research to ascertain property ownership and zoning requirements, informing the public about violations and issuing necessary warnings and citations.
• Reinspects properties to confirm compliance with regulations.
• Provides guidance to investigative staff regarding compliance procedures and legal hearings.
• Prepares and reviews legal documentation for prosecuting violations and attends hearings to provide testimony.
Additional Responsibilities
• May investigate incidents involving county vehicles.
• Maintains up-to-date manuals and reference materials.
• May be required to work during emergencies as determined by the county's administrative office.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• One year of relevant experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License required.
• Must obtain necessary certifications within specified timeframes.
