Road Maintenance Specialist
This role involves maintaining contracted assets, such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation, per standards in the contract and as directed by supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Create safe traffic control setups and removals of devices including cones, message boards, temporary signage, etc., following OTM Book 7 guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on bridge structures and facilities, including railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting as required.
- Ensure proper functionality of roadway catch basins, sumps, pumps, fire hydrants, and other mechanical assets through use of shovels and other hand or power tools.
- Transport crew and equipment to work sites operating large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
- Adhere to Company policies and procedures at all times.
- Maintain and repair highway surfaces, including potholes, striping, reflectors, concrete, and asphalt.
- Keep highways and medians clean through litter and debris removal and disposal using snow removal, sanding equipment, and litter claw.
- Repair and maintain slopes, berms, culverts, drains, and other infrastructure features using shovels and power tools.
- Control vegetation growth using lawn mowing equipment, trimmers, and chemical sprayers.
- Maintain signs, guardrails, fences, and lighting through repair and/or replacement using hand or power tools.
- Familiarity with infrastructure maintenance practices.
- Safe work methods to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Recognize hazards in tasks and adjust to avoid losses, injuries, or accidents.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to job requirements.
- Effective communication and written documentation skills.
- Basic math functions for calculating proportions, percentages, measurements.
- Understand written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Read, write, and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure documents to comply with contractual requirements.
- Flexibility to adapt to business needs.
- A high level of attention to detail.
- Takes ownership of responsibilities.
- Brief knowledge of standard construction and maintenance methods, materials, and tools.
- Skill in using small hand power tools associated with the work.
- Interface with the public in a professional manner.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior experience in infrastructure, maintenance, and repair is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record are required for company vehicle operation.
- Class DZ/AZ driver's license and OTM Book 7 are highly desirable.
$65,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on location and experience.
Work Conditions / Physical Demands:The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and may be required to work in hazardous environments. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and use manual and powered tools and equipment safely.
