Compensation Range: $28.00-$42.00 Per Hour
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Head Coach for the Rowing team will oversee various responsibilities including strategic planning and operational management. This role encompasses the creation and execution of varsity training schedules, collaboration with novice coaching staff, management of regatta entries, travel logistics, recruitment and retention of team members, alumni relations, financial oversight, and the promotion of the rowing program. The position requires an average commitment of 20 hours per week, with flexibility for morning, evening, and weekend engagements, including competitions.
The Rowing Head Coach is tasked with upholding the standards, policies, and procedures as delineated in the Sport Club Handbook, alongside all responsibilities associated with coaching a collegiate club program. The ideal candidate will be expected to adhere to and enforce all regulations established by the governing bodies while serving as a positive representative of the program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Duties:
- Adhere to all expectations as outlined in the Sport Club Coaching Agreement.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures of the organization and Aztec Recreation.
- Prioritize the safety of all team members, coaches, and equipment at all times.
- Represent the team and organization professionally at all times.
- Meet all training requirements set by the aquatic center staff, including safety protocols.
- Collaborate with team officers and administrators to establish and meet program objectives.
- Design and implement effective training schedules for both morning and afternoon sessions.
- Create and distribute travel plans for competitions.
- Ensure readiness of coaching launches prior to practice sessions.
- Maintain punctuality for all scheduled practices.
- Assist with financial management alongside team officers.
- Coordinate with other programs for joint practices and competitions.
- Manage regatta entries and travel arrangements.
- Transport necessary equipment to events and perform maintenance as needed.
- Support the assistant coaches in developing novice and women's programs.
- Contribute to fundraising initiatives for the rowing program.
- Maintain a positive community presence for the team.
- Organize special events with alumni and team members.
- Represent the team at regional or national meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Customer Service and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain relationships with various departments.
- Represent the team and organization in a professional manner.
- Maintain effective working relationships with all athletes and staff.
Safety Protocols:
- Conduct all operations with the safety of staff and participants as the top priority.
- Adhere to the organization's Code of Safe Practices.
- Report incidents to supervisors and ensure proper documentation is completed.
- Immediately report maintenance issues or unsafe equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Proficient understanding of recreation programs, facilities, and policies is required.
- Familiarity with the recreation website is required.
- Knowledge and/or participation in recreation programs is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding certification.
- Valid California Driver's License and proof of insurance are required.
Training Requirements:
- Complete Gender Awareness and Sexual Harassment Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
- Complete the California Defensive Driving Course.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings as directed.
- Obtain US Rowing Level 2 Coaching Certification within the first year if not already acquired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may vary based on program locations, which can include both indoor and outdoor settings. Exposure to various elements such as weather conditions and operational hazards may occur.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical requirements include walking, bending, climbing, and working in confined spaces. Extended periods of standing and movement may be necessary.
