Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. This position requires a high degree of analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform weekly, monthly, and annual reconciliations of accounting and financial records for management review and approval.
  • Review and reconcile any exceptions from reconciliations.
  • Oversee the Purchase Order system and ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable.
  • Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules, ensuring schedules are reconciled to the general ledger.
  • Offer guidance to accounts payable and accounts receivable staff.
  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information, under the direction of management.
  • Participate in the process of month-end and year-end close.
  • Participate and provide any necessary information in preparation for audits, maintaining an amicable and professional relationship with external auditors.
  • Work closely with the VP of Compliance preparing special reports for government agencies, accreditors, and reporting variance analyses.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements as it applies to all functions within the accounting and financial aid department.
  • Confirm through internal control reviews that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects as needed.
  • Communicate with coworkers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Higher education accounting experience a plus.
  • Experience with governmental accounting and contracting a plus.
  • Preferred advanced proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, and Paylocity.
  • Experience with internal control audit function.
  • Detail-oriented, outstanding research, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Process tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Problem-solve rapidly and effectively.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to handle confidential and sensitive information, following confidentiality guidelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, academic departments, and administration to support student success, achieve institutional goals, and contribute to a positive and inclusive culture.
  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Advanced skills in the use of standard Microsoft Office software products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the proven ability to prioritize.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey information and interact with students, colleagues, and others.
  • Proficient in presentations, public speaking, and writing.
  • Works with a sense of urgency, while engaging and listening to experts.
  • Flexible to work longer hours to meet deadlines, if needed.
  • Exhibits a high degree of flexibility in adapting to a rapidly changing environment.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.

Physical Demands
  • The employee may have to lift and move up to 10 pounds.
  • Sedentary work. Essential functions of this role require sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to type, use a computer to search for information, and input information while speaking on the phone is required.
  • The employee will frequently be required to use the computer, mouse, and telephone to conduct the regular tasks of this role.
  • The employee will be required to compute mathematical calculations as a normal part of this role.
Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of this remote position, the job holder will work in a home office environment.
