Position Summary:
Support the Outlet Supervisor in managing daily store functions. Take charge of store operations when the Outlet Supervisor is unavailable. Carry out the responsibilities of an Outlet Sales Associate.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise basic store operations in the absence of the Outlet Supervisor, including daily financial transactions, ensuring that staff provide customer service in line with established guidelines.
Organize merchandise effectively within the store.
Ensure a tidy, safe, and pleasant shopping environment by adhering to proper housekeeping standards.
Customer Assistance:
a) Assist customers in locating products and/or
b) Help carry purchased items to their vehicles (excluding loading items into vehicles).
c) Address any customer complaints or issues by informing the Outlet Supervisor.
Sort and manage unsold items for recycling or disposal as necessary.
Execute opening and closing tasks as required.
Perform cashier duties when needed.
Welcome customers as they enter the outlet and express gratitude as they exit.
Additional Responsibilities
Carry out related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
At least six months of retail sales experience required; experience in "as-is" retail preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must complete forklift certification within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge:
Basic mathematical skills.
Familiarity with electronic cash registers (training provided on the job).
Understanding of company and retail policies and procedures (training provided on the job).
Awareness of Goodwill Central Coast's mission and retail policies (training provided on the job).
Equipment:
Standard sales and material handling equipment, including forklifts.
Skills:
Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Basic Spanish communication skills preferred.
Ability to train new employees in operational procedures as directed.
Capability to make quick and confident decisions.
Ability to handle various tasks efficiently, adapting to changes without losing productivity.
Maintain a strong sales presence, demonstrating high energy and enthusiasm that positively impacts overall outlet sales and team morale.
Learn and accurately execute opening/closing procedures, cash register operations, and related paperwork; supervise cash register functions as needed.
Ability to price items at fair market value.
Ability to coordinate movements safely around merchandise and fixtures.
Ability to operate cash registers and handle merchandise efficiently.
Ability to make informed judgments and communicate them clearly based on established policies.
Demonstrate satisfactory attendance as per company policy.
Adhere to safety practices as outlined in company policies; promptly report safety hazards or incidents to a supervisor or safety committee member.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in a large warehouse setting, including an outdoor area. The environment is not climate-controlled, with temperature variations. Exposure to dust, odors, and noise from radios is common. Collaboration with sales staff and management is essential, with frequent interaction with the public. The role may involve meeting tight deadlines or special events, which could require overtime. Expect fluctuating periods of high activity throughout the workday.
Physical Requirements
The work pace is steady, involving constant standing and walking. The position requires moderate to heavy physical activity, including regular lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
For larger or heavier items (over 50 lbs.), appropriate material handling equipment or assistance from colleagues should be utilized.
