Job Summary:
The Lead Materials Engineer is accountable for the design, development, and enhancement of processes and methodologies for the production, molding, and application of materials in the creation of hardware, electronic components, and/or structures.
Essential Duties:
Foster collaboration with suppliers in North America to expedite multi-sourcing and localization efforts.
This collaboration entails organizing technical meetings, compiling and summarizing feedback for suppliers, preparing meeting materials, leading discussions, articulating feedback, requesting enhancements, determining specifications and analytical methods, formulating development plans, and managing samples, all in alignment with relevant technical departments.
Act as Panasonic Energy's primary technical liaison or support contact for suppliers in North America.
Develop an evaluation framework for electrode and paste materials and their electrochemical performance, subsequently creating standard operating procedures and applying them to actual development projects.
Electrode and Paste Materials:
Assessing physical and chemical properties in delivery specifications, etc.
Electrochemical Performance:
Fabricating electrodes, assembling coin cells, and conducting charge/discharge tests.
Adhere to fundamental business practices, provide reports, maintain open communication lines, and seek guidance or advice from your supervisor. Maintain the same rapport with your team members.
Collaborate with all relevant Panasonic technical departments and leverage their expertise to optimize development efficiency.
Advance developments while considering not only performance but also customer requirements, procurement, quality, productivity, and intellectual property.
Comprehend the objectives, advantages/disadvantages, and timelines of projects.
Support all corporate Environmental, Health & Safety, Governance, and Quality initiatives.
Utilize knowledge of Panasonic's manufacturing processes to enhance the quality of supplied components and continue to expand your understanding of related technologies.

8 years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with a preference for battery manufacturing experience.
A strong background in high-volume manufacturing is highly desirable.
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, as well as with cross-functional groups.
Expertise in analytical methodologies pertinent to the specific role within the Materials Engineering Team.
Familiarity with commonly used materials in battery manufacturing and the analytical techniques associated with their qualification and testing.
Experience utilizing Design of Experiments concepts to improve assembly conditions and part applications.
A strong drive for development, with logical explanations for progress based on actual data.
Experience in materials development within a battery manufacturing context through collaboration with material suppliers, and/or material development in suppliers through collaboration with customers.
Mass production implementation of materials with new designs or from new suppliers.
Able to propose material specification requirements to suppliers or collaboratively create them.
Ability to utilize or comprehend chemical/physical analytical methods and/or electrochemical measurements.
Capability to lead large projects involving multiple related functional areas.
Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Ability to perform statistical analysis to enhance the battery manufacturing process.
