Custodian Purpose Statement: The role of the Custodian is essential for establishing a welcoming, hygienic, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position involves arranging equipment and furniture for various activities and minimizing potential property damage and liability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes furnishings and equipment to ensure adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.
  • Participates in training sessions (blood borne pathogens, cleaning agents, floor maintenance, first aid, etc.) to stay informed on updated procedures.
  • Cleans designated school facilities (classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and appealing environment.
  • Delivers various items (e.g., supplies, mail, packages, furniture) to distribute materials appropriately.
  • Greets individuals not recognized as district employees or parents to uphold campus security.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) to ensure the availability of necessary items for facility upkeep.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs (changing light bulbs, replacing washers, oiling doors, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient facility use.
  • Conducts specialized semi-annual and annual cleanings (stripping and waxing floors, moving furniture, cleaning carpets, etc.) to uphold a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Informs site personnel of any safety concerns and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Repairs furniture and equipment to ensure items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Responds to immediate safety and/or operational issues (facility damage, injured and ill students, alarms, etc.) to take appropriate action for resolving urgent safety concerns and maintaining a functional educational environment.
  • Secures facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists other personnel as needed to support the completion of their work activities.
  • Inspects school facilities to ensure compliance with district standards for safety and cleanliness, and to identify vandalism, equipment breakage, or weather damage.
  • Monitors students to ensure a safe and positive school environment and/or supervises student workers.
  • Supports assigned site administrators (e.g., monitoring students, couriering items, supervising in-house suspension work crews, etc.) to assist them in their work activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

Mental Requirements:

  • Level B: Sufficient to read and write technical information and instructions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, understand commonly used procedures and methods, or operate equipment that requires some training.

Education: Equivalent to completion of a high school curriculum.

Experience: No job-related experience is required.

Certifications/Clearances: Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability.

Compensation Details:

FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Pay Schedule: Hourly - Grade 107

Work Calendar: Support 12 Month Long
