About the Role

Saputo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Scientist, R&D and Innovation Leader to provide strategic technical leadership for the cheese portfolio. This is a key role that will drive innovation, quality, and yield improvements across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical innovations and best practices within the cheese category to drive process optimizations, equipment technologies, and product performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement new products and technologies.
  • Act as a technical leader for commercial and intellectual property matters, monitoring industry trends and making recommendations for patent filings and trade secret protection.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and universities to stay current with the latest technologies and research.
  • Provide technical assistance on quality issues and support the engineering team with capital project feasibility and implementation.
  • Ensure a consistent internal and external face for Saputo by building relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and industry groups.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of R&D and technical service experience in the dairy/cheese industry or business-related experience with dairy product development.
  • Experience with development of pasta filata cheeses (string, mozzarella, provolone) and a strong understanding of commercial dynamics that drive business profitability.
  • Master's degree in Dairy Science, Food Science, Dairy Manufacturing, Chemistry, or related field, with a PhD preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop and lead teams to drive results.
  • Strong technical and financial acumen to identify project feasibility and ROI.
  • Ability to collaborate and persuade across multiple functional areas to build consensus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Ability to travel 50%+ of the time.
