Job Title: Radiologic Technologist (X-ray Tech)

Department: Diagnostic Imaging
Hours: 24 hours

Shift: 1st

Weekend's: As needed

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the radiologist and/or DI Administration, the Radiologic Technologist (X-ray Tech) performs professional duties. These duties involve a variety of technical procedures to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. The technologist assists physicians in selecting practical applications and technical factors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of radiographic, mammographic, and fluoroscopic exams with mobile and stationary equipment as approved.
  • Set, adjust, manipulate, control, and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis of disease using proper KVP, MA, exposure time, and focal film distance.
  • Practice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients, staff, and self.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient, instruct, and assist the patient in assuming a physical position for the exam.
  • Assist physicians in administering prescribed contrast media.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Completion of a 2-year approved Radiological Technology Program is required.
  • Current license in the State of Connecticut is required.
  • Registered, or registry eligible, with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists is required.
  • Maintenance of appropriate CEUs to meet ARRT guidelines is required.
  • CPR - Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification/equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
  • Approved vein puncture and lab procedures according to the Laboratory policies, if applicable, are preferred.
  • Approved computer registration according to the Admitting policies, if applicable, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year practical experience performing related duties as a radiographer is preferred.
