We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented ED Tech Registration Clerk to join our team at Morrow County Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and orderly registration of patients, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities- Greets and rooms patients in a friendly and helpful manner, promoting a positive image for the hospital.
- Completes bedside registrations for Emergency Room and Urgent Care patients.
- Cross-trains in all job responsibilities of an ED Tech, including patient care, specimen collection, and medical records management.
- Assists in the collection, labeling, and transportation of specimens to the laboratory.
- Reports unusual findings regarding patient or family to nursing staff.
- Maintains unit stock/supplies at par levels and in working order.
- Prepares paperwork for patient transfer as necessary.
- Registers all patients, gathering necessary patient information and inputting it into the computer system.
- Obtains necessary signatures of consent for treatment and notifies Patient Services if patient requests additional information on Advanced Directives.
- Provides a HIPAA privacy brochure and obtains the appropriate signature.
- Gathers Advance Directive information (living will, durable power of attorney, DNR).
- Initiates financial aid application for self-pay patients.
- Wristbands all registered patients as required by Joint Commission.
- Distributes and instructs patient/guarantor on various forms and paperwork necessary for the type of visit.
- Routes numerous forms to appropriate departments and routes registration and insurance forms to other provider's files.
- Answers telephone, receives messages, and ensures they are routed to the appropriate person.
- Performs switchboard operator duties as requested.
- Assists Emergency Department in ordering appropriate supplies, phone calls, Med Flight transportation, and copying patient charts for transfer.
- Ability to schedule/register appointments in multiple computer systems.
- Verifies insurance for all patients registered.
- Collects co-pay for all types of insurances.
- Processes patient co-pay payments and maintains and properly balances the cash drawer.
- Scans insurance cards, consent forms, Living Will, DPOA, DNR, and Physicians' orders account specific.
- Completes MSP (Medicare Secondary Payer) for Patient Accounts department.
- Generates all demographics and third-party payer information and documentation to provide a seamless, accurate, and compliant patient record and billing process.
- Complies with all state and federal regulations.
- Assists in other areas within the emergency and urgent care departments as needed.
- Participates in staff meetings, educational programs, committees, and in-services.
- High school education or equivalent required.
- One year of hospital registration experience preferred.
- Basic coding and typing (35-45 wpm) required and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning ability: ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
