Job Summary

As a Nurse Practitioner, School of Medicine, you will provide advanced practice healthcare services, collaborating with colleagues and clinical directors to ensure high-quality patient care. You will supervise assigned support staff, participate in quality assurance activities, and demonstrate a commitment to quality healthcare.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a graduate-level nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • No experience required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
  • Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)

Current RNs who have not yet completed their nurse practitioner program or recent graduates who have not yet obtained their ANCC/AANP certification or APRN nurse practitioner license are eligible to apply for this position. However, official employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program, ANCC/AANP certification, and APRN nurse practitioner licensure.

Job Duties:

As a Nurse Practitioner, School of Medicine, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working independently to full scope of practice in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, with acknowledgement of off-site collaborating physician availability for consultation and collaboration
  • Performing individualized history and physical examinations for diverse populations, inclusive of social determinants of health
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient
  • Diagnosing acute, episodic, and chronic diseases
  • Developing a comprehensive plan of care that encompasses evidence-based practice guidelines, practice protocols, Medicare, Medicaid, and other state and federal regulations
  • Prescribing appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
  • Providing appropriate education for current health diagnoses, as well as anticipatory guidance for health promotion and disease prevention applicable to the individual's health and socioeconomic status
  • Monitoring plan of care for cost-effectiveness and the achievement of expected improvements, while openly seeking feedback from patients, significant others, colleagues, allied health, appropriate referrals, and collaborating physician to enhance quality outcomes
  • Facilitating patient transition within and between healthcare services to ensure accurate communication among the healthcare team
  • Documenting in a timely manner to ensure all services are accurately accounted for and available for review by the interdisciplinary team
  • Adhering to internal controls established for the department, all requirements for continued licensure, periodic evaluations, and actively seeking input for identifying actions to improve performance and practice outcomes
