Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Counselor to join our team at the Madison County Government. As a Counselor, you will be responsible for providing mental health services to juveniles and families, including crisis intervention, individual, family, and group counseling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling services to juveniles and families
  • Implement screening tools and conduct formal assessments as needed
  • Develop, review, and monitor treatment plans for assigned caseload
  • Maintain records and prepare reports to document relevant case information
  • Provide consultation and support to unit personnel in developing, implementing, and evaluating juvenile behavior management strategies
  • Assess and report cases of substance use, potential suicide, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect
  • Communicate with probation officers, case workers, therapists, psychiatrists, physicians, and other outside service providers
  • Provide juveniles and families with linkage and referral to other resources and community services
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or related field of study
  • Licensed or license eligible
  • Knowledge of individual, family, and group counseling techniques
  • Knowledge of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral assessment, family systems, human development, separation and loss, intervention strategies and techniques, evaluation, and crisis management
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversity, and disabilities
Working Conditions

The incumbent performs a variety of duties which are broad in scope and require consideration of many complex variables and their potential interrelationship in designing, assessing, evaluating, and modifying intervention strategies and counseling techniques.
