Position Overview
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide expert clinical guidance for all facets of patient care within an acute inpatient environment, promoting a patient and family-centered approach. You will demonstrate clinical proficiency by employing evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Your role will also involve integrating knowledge of safety protocols, cost management, and quality enhancement into nursing practices. You will identify priorities at the patient, unit, and organizational levels and incorporate these into your nursing approach.
Compliance and Standards
Adhere to all organizational policies and compliance regulations, including but not limited to: licensure renewal, mandatory training, employee health assessments, attendance policies, dress code, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. Maintain an understanding of regulatory agency standards (TJC, SC DPH, CMS) and provide care in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.
Work Schedule
This position may require flexibility in scheduling, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment:
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments using appropriate standards and tools specific to the patient’s age and condition. Recognize and document changes in patient status and responses to interventions. Establish nursing priorities for care plans based on assessments and collaborate with healthcare team members to validate these priorities.
Planning and Outcomes:
Create individualized care plans that reflect the patient’s assessed needs and involve collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team. Adjust care plans based on patient condition changes and ensure effective communication of these updates.
Implementation:
Deliver direct patient care aligned with established nursing plans. Execute specific tasks in accordance with organizational policies within the RN scope of practice. Delegate appropriate nursing tasks to team members, ensuring completion and monitoring quality of care.
Evaluation:
Assess the effectiveness of care plans based on patient responses and document progress towards expected outcomes. Communicate any changes in patient conditions to the healthcare team and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
Patient and Family Education:
Identify and assess the educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored teaching that includes clear communication and practical examples. Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive education is delivered.
Professional Accountability:
Continuously evaluate your nursing practice against professional standards and maintain licensure through ongoing education. Reflect on strengths and areas for improvement to enhance nursing practice.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience as a registered nurse is necessary.
Licensure Requirements
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in South Carolina.
Alternative Qualifications
In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or a comparable residency from another organization will be accepted. One year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience may also be considered.
Work Shift
Night shift availability is required.
