As an Onsite Sports Medicine Specialist, your role will focus on promoting and sustaining health and wellness within an occupational medicine framework, emphasizing outstanding patient care and minimizing work-related injuries. The Certified Athletic Trainer-Onsite (CAT-O) is pivotal in managing workers' compensation cases, overseeing injury and illness treatment, providing health promotion and injury prevention services, emergency response, and facilitating return-to-work job placements for our clients. The CAT-O collaborates closely with the client's Health and Safety Leader to foster a healthier and safer workforce.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer basic first aid for musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses as outlined in Physician Standing Orders, assessing range of motion, strength, reflexes, and functional status.
  • Evaluate and refer injured employees to appropriate healthcare providers to ensure optimal care for work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Implement the action plan and standing orders to effectively respond to onsite medical emergencies.
  • Assist in the management of Workers' Compensation cases through thorough claim documentation and follow-up.
  • Work in conjunction with the client's Human Resources team and management on return-to-work (RTW) job placements.
  • Monitor and report on MSD-related statistics to client stakeholders.
  • Oversee pre-employment functional testing and conduct vision acuity assessments.
  • Develop and coordinate injury prevention initiatives, including ergonomic training and evaluations.
  • Conduct comprehensive ergonomic job analyses, identifying and quantifying risk factors, and recommending administrative and ergonomic modifications to the work environment.
  • Design job rotation plans for production areas and ensure compliance.
  • Provide objective assessments of job physical requirements for job descriptions, referrals for developing restrictions, and legal and case management for RTW, litigation, and accommodations.
  • Implement pre-shift preventative activity programs and ensure adherence.
  • During rehabilitation, execute treatment plans that incorporate therapeutic exercises, modalities, and work conditioning as necessary (subject to state-specific regulations) as per Physician Standing Orders.
  • Utilize innovative and creative solutions to design and implement effective interventions.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing as required.
  • Encourage personal health and wellness within the workplace.
  • Analyze data to evaluate the direct and indirect costs associated with musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports detailing rehabilitation utilization, cost savings, and cost avoidance.
  • Fulfill administrative duties such as completing necessary forms and reports promptly. Documentation may include patient files, invoices, monthly reports, budgets, and outcome tools.
  • Foster an environment of trust and care, empowering employees to take responsibility for reducing or eliminating behaviors that contribute to injury and illness.
  • Maintain regular communication with safety personnel regarding rehabilitation and injury prevention efforts.
  • Participate in meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Contribute articles for various newsletters and the company Intranet site as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training from an accredited program.
  • Current National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC) Athletic Trainer certification.
  • Active and valid license to practice in the applicable state.
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.

Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in Athletic Trainer services within an onsite context.
  • Knowledge of kinesiology and ergonomic assessments.
