Job Overview

Position Title: Fleet Mechanic

Role Summary: Homer Companies is in search of proficient fleet mechanics to conduct maintenance, repairs, and servicing of our fleet vehicles and specialized machinery.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Prior experience is preferred, particularly in areas such as preventive maintenance, air brake systems, electrical diagnostics, drivetrain, steering, and suspension.
  • Possession of a CDL Class A license is advantageous.
  • Applicants must have their own set of tools.

Key Responsibilities:

· Adapt mechanical expertise to our specialized machinery.

· Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems as needed.

· Execute tasks as specified in repair orders with precision and efficiency, adhering to company standards.

· Identify issues through experience, analysis, and testing.

· Determine the cause of malfunctions and carry out necessary repairs.

· Conduct repairs within your skill set.

· Perform routine inspections and standard maintenance tasks.

· Assess assigned vehicles to identify any additional safety or service requirements.

· Communicate with the Fleet Shop Foreman regarding any further work needed.

· Keep a detailed record of all work completed and recommendations made.

· Ensure cleanliness of vehicles and workspace during service or repairs.

· Undertake additional related tasks as assigned.

· Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.

· Learn and comply with all safety regulations and company policies.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

· Work primarily occurs in a workshop setting, with occasional fieldwork requiring travel; exposure to noise, dust, grease, odors, and varying weather conditions is expected. Overtime may be required on short notice.

· Candidates must pass a physical examination; essential functions require adequate physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop, including prolonged walking, standing, and sitting; frequent bending, climbing, reaching, and twisting; lifting up to 50 pounds; operating assigned equipment and vehicles; and effective verbal communication for information exchange.
