Responsibilities
We are currently seeking a Respiratory Therapist (PRN), also known internally as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) at St. Mary's Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare. The Respiratory Therapist, or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP II), plays a vital role in the assessment and management of patients with respiratory or cardiopulmonary disorders. This position assists patients with both acute and chronic respiratory conditions to achieve optimal respiratory function and enhance their quality of life. This role is offered on a per diem basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to):
- Administer treatments such as inhalation therapies, oxygen therapy, and aerosol medications to facilitate easier breathing for patients.
- Conduct assessments including pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas analysis to evaluate lung capacity and gas exchange.
- Set up, monitor, and adjust ventilators and other life-supporting equipment for patients who are unable to breathe independently.
- Participate in emergency response teams, providing airway management, performing intubations, and resuscitating patients in critical situations.
- Evaluate patients' respiratory status, track their progress, and modify treatment plans as necessary.
- Ensure that all respiratory equipment is thoroughly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience:
- State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required.
- Current BCLS (AHA) certification upon hire and maintain current status.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
- Two years of experience as an RCP preferred.
- ACLS certification within 60 days of hire and maintain current status.
- NRP certification preferred.
- PALS certification within 60 days of hire and maintain current status.
- Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
