Job Summary

This position is for an Allied Trades Worker, responsible for assisting higher graded workers in performing skilled trades tasks in support of maintenance functions. The ideal candidate will have experience with equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs complicated skilled trades tasks in Allied Trades Shops, including welding, fabrication, and repair of equipment and vehicles.
  • Operates various welding equipment, including wire welders, torches, and plasma cutters, to perform minor welding tasks.
  • Uses jigs and fixtures to assemble and set up parts for welding, and repairs mobile equipment metal body components.
  • Straitens, knocks out dents and creases, sands, and finishes damaged parts, and replaces broken or damaged windshields and windows.
  • Paints a wide variety of vehicles using standard methods, including brushing, rolling, and spraying.
  • Prepares surfaces by sanding and wire brushing, and thins, stirs, and mixes coating materials.
  • Applies coating materials with brushes, rollers, or spray guns, and modifies, repairs, and makes canvas parts.
  • Constructs and repairs boxes, pallets, and wood bracing for shipping and storage, and removes and replaces wood type trailer decking.
  • Operates various machine tools to perform work involved in simple fabrications, as instructed by a higher-grade machinist.
Requirements
  • Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of equipment operation and simple preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Experience using common hand and power tools, and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with occasional overtime and varying work schedules. The ideal candidate will be able to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
