Position Overview
Under the supervision of management and physician leadership, the Senior Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in overseeing clinical operations. This includes maintaining patient flow and facilitating the delivery of primary and preventive healthcare services. The role encompasses performing technical procedures, adhering to lab protocols, and engaging in clinically oriented tasks under the guidance of healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Medical Assistant is responsible for:
- Assisting healthcare providers in delivering primary care and managing patient care effectively.
- Collaborating with administrative staff to enhance operational efficiency and patient flow.
- Engaging with external healthcare facilities and agencies regarding patient care and insurance matters.
- Maintaining current competencies and effectively communicating with leadership and accreditation bodies about processes and workflows.
- Performing front office duties as needed to ensure seamless operations.
- Providing support across various departments or locations as required.
- Exhibiting exceptional customer service skills and fostering a patient- and family-centered care model.
Additional Responsibilities
The Senior Medical Assistant will also take on at least two of the following responsibilities, dedicating a minimum of 20% of their time to:
- Identifying primary care gaps and preparing outreach and charting.
- Assisting in residency clinic roles.
- Conducting high-level disinfection procedures.
- Serving as a designated preceptor for new hires.
- Participating in or leading special programs or grants.
- Engaging in care management activities.
- Acting as a qualified language interpreter.
- Providing advanced support to providers during complex procedures.
- Working in a flexible float pool across multiple sites.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, including clinical rotation, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience in a medical assistant role.
- Preferred certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and additional medical assistant credentials.
Physical Requirements
The role may involve:
- Occasional lifting of weights up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Handling various physical tasks, including pushing and pulling.
