In partnership with our radiology team, this role involves independently conducting advanced diagnostic ultrasound examinations while adhering to established safety protocols. You will also serve as a mentor for junior staff and students.

Essential Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Completion of a CAHEA accredited training program in diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Preferred experience of 2 years in sonography.
  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or eligibility for registration (must obtain within one year of hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong computer and software skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of abdominal anatomy and the ability to perform ultrasound examinations, providing preliminary assessments to radiologists.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Confirm physician orders and procedures for accuracy.
  • Utilize radiology information systems to enhance patient care.
  • Clearly explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operate ultrasound equipment to perform imaging procedures according to established protocols.
  • Review patient images to ensure they meet diagnostic quality standards before transmission.
  • Conduct timely quality control checks in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in departmental operations, including inventory management and equipment maintenance.
  • Adapt communication and behavior to suit specific patient populations.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Considerations

This role involves physical demands that may include lifting and moving objects, as well as exposure to blood and body fluids. The incumbent will work in a patient care environment, interacting directly with patients and handling specimens that may carry communicable diseases.
