Job Title: Pharmaceutical Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmaceutical Consultant to join our team at NHS Management Services. As a Pharmaceutical Consultant, you will play a crucial role in providing quality pharmacy consulting services to long-term care residents, maximizing therapeutic interventions, educational programs, and knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations to produce overall positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform monthly medication reviews for each resident within an assigned LTC facility, reporting irregularities and concerns to the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and attending physician through a written report of findings and recommendations.
  • Evaluate physician medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, potential interactions, and route of administration based on documented diagnosis, lab results, assessment of resident's ability to swallow, and other pertinent healthcare information.
  • Implement corporate clinical initiatives derived through SCP corporate collaboration with P&T committee.
  • Work with Director of Clinical Services to implement and manage cost containment programs, including DURs.
  • Apply knowledge of pharmacy laws as well as state and federal laws governing long-term care pharmacy services into monthly consultant reviews for assigned LTC facility.
  • Assist Director of Clinical Services with account management, client services, and customer service issues.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication management, thus providing optimal patient care.
  • Educate physicians, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, and other healthcare professionals through in-services regarding regulatory, clinical, and other pertinent healthcare information, resulting in improved patient care practices.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • Current licensure in the state(s) of practice.
  • Current consultant license in state of practice (if applicable).
  • 1 year consulting experience in long-term care environment, preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to quickly identify problems and find effective solutions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Microsoft Excel and Word preferred.
  • Ability to work extended hours.
  • Ability to travel, including overnight.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to multitask and complete jobs without supervision.
  • Ability to assess information and make prudent, professional decisions.
  • Ability to work and produce results under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively and harmoniously interact with facility, management, and other employees at all levels; promotes teamwork and professionalism.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  • Must be dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
