Job Summary:

As an Electric Distribution Technician with Berkshire Hathaway Energy, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our customers. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and expertise in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric distribution and transmission systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain electric distribution and transmission systems, including overhead and underground facilities.
  • Perform duties of Electric Service Technician, Utility Operator, and Meter Utility Person.
  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner, complying with applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Install, change, transfer, move, and remove poles, poles line hardware, guys, transformers, lightning arresters, streetlight equipment, electrical cable, gas pipe, cross-arms, energized conductors, insulators, conduit, capacitor bank controls, and electrical material and accessories.
  • Install, use, and remove protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits of all voltages.
  • Work with hot line tools on circuits and perform work on energized circuits of all voltages.
  • Perform steel tower structural work, including the erection and removal and repair of steel towers and electrical equipment used in connection therewith.
  • Read meters, operate switches and cutouts in transmission and distribution circuits, and patrol transmission and distribution circuits as assigned.
  • Inspect poles and towers, making climbing inspections of conductors and equipment.
  • Drive truck and be responsible for truck, tools, and equipment carried thereon.
  • Maintain knowledge of and be capable of operating all types of equipment associated with the work being performed.
  • Locate underground gas and electric facilities in conjunction with work being performed, and perform locates where no Locator/Leak Surveyors exist.
  • Contact property owners on tree trimming matters and perform minor tree trimming, cutting brush, removing line detriments as necessary.
  • Responsible for completing written reports on fieldwork and proper accounting for materials and time associated with each job.
  • Perform public contacts when necessary.
  • Lead, train, and instruct employees in their work, including switching.
  • Install, remove, change, and turn on or off existing meters of various classes.
  • Perform duties in Company and customer substations to restore service and perform diagnostics, including switching, analyzing, and communicating relay targets, amp readings, voltage readings, breaker/recloser count or values, voltage regulator information, load tap changer information, and similar work to restore service.
  • Operate substation equipment, including opening and closing breakers and reclosers, operating load tap changers and voltage regulator controls, installing fuses, and similar work to restore service.

Requirements:
  • Class A CDL required.
  • Pipeline/Hwy Alcohol & Drug Testing.
  • CIP certification.
  • Must be an experienced journeyworker, with at least four years related experience, which may include installing overhead and underground utilities, installing poles and steel tower structures, and related hardware.
  • Current journeyworker card/certificate/license and/or evidence of satisfactorily completing an apprenticeship training program preferred.
