Key Responsibilities- Anticipate and meet the sequential needs of surgeons and physicians during procedures.
- Assist with case preparation, adhering to preference card guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Resource Nurse and Perioperative Educator to develop and provide competency-based orientation.
- Precept staff and students, providing expert guidance and support.
- Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals and objectives, adhering to policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly, identifying and troubleshooting issues promptly.
- Function as a technical resource person, providing information on instruments and equipment, and assisting in planning and maintenance.
- Assist during procedures, performing specified activities under the direct supervision of surgeons and physicians.
- Identify and handle specimens appropriately.
- Participate in meetings and committees, representing the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
- Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Perform indirect patient care activities, such as patient transportation, as needed.
- Provide comfort and support to patients, demonstrating sensitivity to their care and privacy.
- Respond to questions from patients, families, and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive, and knowledgeable manner, or refer to appropriate personnel.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduation from a school of surgical technology or hospital-based program required.
- One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
- 1-2 years of surgical technologist experience required.
- One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
- Maintain 6 Continuing Education Credits per year within 180 days.
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days.
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification preferred.
