CNC Gear Hobbing SpecialistWe are seeking a skilled and experienced CNC Gear Hobbing Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating CNC gear hobbing machines, shapers, and shavers to machine close tolerance splines or gear teeth on metal blanks.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Interpret machining instructions, blueprints, work orders, and specification sheets to define machine settings, fixtures, and required hobs used for gear specifications (i.e., dimensions and tolerances).
- Safely power up and down the machine, load and unload parts, ensuring proper tooling.
- Select, align, & secure fixtures, holders, tooling, hobs, attachments, accessories, and materials.
- Set up and operate the machine to verify the accuracy of CNC settings or programs, calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. You may need to compute gear dimensions or machine settings.
- Verify the conformance of hobbed gears to specifications using micrometers, gauges, and a computerized gear checker.
- Adhere to all work instructions, following and maintaining ISO/QS Standards and Northern Gear & Machining procedures, and quality certification requirements.
- Conduct all assigned and necessary preventative maintenance procedures. Detect machine malfunctions, test the operation of the machine for functionality and performance, and make adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers, programmers, production employees, and management to resolve machining issues while maintaining continuous improvement, improved tool life, reduction of tooling costs, machine downtime, improved setup time, and implementation of quality improvements.
- Assist in training operators within the gear/hob/shaper department.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Possess the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position. This includes walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, pushing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching over and under waist level, and twisting for extended periods on cement.
- Demonstrate the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms, input data into computer quality, production, and engineering programs, and exchange information with other team members.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
