Job Overview

INTRODUCTION:

This role plays a vital part in the Public Works Department, focusing on the upkeep and safeguarding of the Tribe's infrastructure, including buildings and water distribution systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

MAINTENANCE TASKS:

  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on buildings, which encompasses plumbing, minor electrical work, window and door fixes, drywall repairs, painting, and cleaning.
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs of appliances and fire alarm systems.
  • Identify and report any unsafe or hazardous conditions.
  • Perform monthly readings of water meters.
  • Monitor fluoride levels in the tribal water supply.
  • Maintain and repair fences, gates, walls, and irrigation systems.
  • Ensure the interior and exterior of buildings are well-maintained and painted.
  • Regularly clear drainage ditches and culverts, especially during rainy seasons.
  • Complete daily assigned tasks and additional duties as required, adhering to a 24-hour schedule that may vary seasonally.
  • Secure tribal buildings after office hours.
  • Assist the Director with logistical needs, such as relocating office furniture.
  • Clear snow from walkways and driveways, applying deicing agents as necessary to ensure safety during inclement weather.
  • Maintain tools and equipment properly, ensuring safe storage.
  • Disassemble and reassemble damaged components of buildings and facilities, assisting colleagues as needed.
  • Work collaboratively on special projects and ongoing maintenance tasks while maintaining a respectful demeanor.
  • Perform rehabilitation work on properties owned by the Siletz Tribe.
  • Execute tasks as directed to fulfill the Scope of Work established by the Public Works Director.
  • Engage in framing for floors, walls, or roofs.
  • Install sub-floors or underlayment and various types of flooring, including vinyl, carpet, or tile.
  • Handle sheetrock installation or repairs, applying appropriate tape and texture techniques.
  • Carry out painting tasks, including surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats.
  • Conduct interior finishing work on doors, window trims, baseboards, and cabinetry.
  • Manage insulation removal or installation in various structural components.
  • Utilize tools and equipment safely and effectively, ensuring proper maintenance and storage.
  • Complete a variety of tasks essential for project completion in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout the construction process.
  • Utilize appropriate safety gear when necessary, including ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Adhere to OSHA safety regulations during all construction activities.

WATER SYSTEM MANAGEMENT:

  • Monitor the water supply within the transmission and distribution systems using controls and telemetry equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Operate pumps and valves to maintain optimal water supply, pressure, and flow rates.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, detailed logs, and data collection systems.
  • Manage valve operations to ensure the safety of crews working on equipment and lines.
  • Respond to alarms and coordinate emergency repairs, collaborating with internal and external agencies as needed.
  • Address malfunctions in the distribution system, repairing gauges, pumps, filters, and other essential equipment.
  • Collect water samples and analyze chemical and biological characteristics to meet clean water standards.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from customers and the public.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary records and reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED, along with three years of experience in building maintenance or residential construction, including one year in water distribution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Upon obtaining Water Distribution Class I certification, salary will increase; certification must be achieved within 18 months of hire, with on-the-job training provided.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Proficient in using measuring tools and operating various machinery and carpentry tools.
  • Familiarity with painting techniques and surface preparation methods.
  • Experience with computer-controlled systems and maintenance management software.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to accurately estimate time and materials for maintenance tasks.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess or obtain first aid and CPR certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be eligible to operate a GSA vehicle.
