Senior Designer

HKS Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Senior Designer to join their Health team. As a recognized leader in the field, this individual will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and delivering exceptional projects for clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, and the ability to solve problems creatively. They will also be responsible for fostering and managing effective client relationships, making high-impact decisions, and coordinating with design talent across the firm and industry to elevate the quality of work overall.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead design efforts on multiple projects, developing conceptual design, presentations, and implementation documents.
  • Guide and direct project teams to manage the development of design throughout design development and implementation documents.
  • Establish project vision and goals in conjunction with clients and project teams.
  • Develop and present design concepts to clients, expanding on ideas and concepts of others.
  • Manage design solutions based on industry-standard construction techniques and engineering principles.
  • Oversee the development of graphic presentations, 3D rendering, and implementation documents to incorporate design intent.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, fabricators, furniture dealers, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
  • Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions.
  • Manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
  • Oversee product research and direct project designers in materials and systems evaluation.
  • Lead team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues, and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Develop, recognize, recruit, and grow diverse talent.
  • Manage conflict effectively and encourage a healthy team environment.
  • Actively promote and incorporate the firm's principles of 'design excellence' through responsible and sustainable design practice.
Qualifications:
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
  • Architectural registration strongly preferred.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience.
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit, architectural software, and graphic software.
  • Successful track record in managing teams and performing duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, including post-occupancy.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
  • Knowledge of building systems, materials, and technologies.
  • Knowledge of furniture, furnishings, and equipment (FF&E) and Environmental Graphic process.
  • Knowledge of architectural building systems, applicable codes, and regulations.
  • Strong presentation skills and graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both verbally and in writing.
