The primary responsibilities of the Materials Manager include monitoring material status, expediting material processes, reallocating materials, canceling orders, and collaborating with leadership and resources to enhance and refine material management practices. This role necessitates a solid understanding of material and supply chain methodologies, along with the ability to exercise independent judgment, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the capability to operate with minimal oversight while supported by a remote team. The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of four years of pertinent experience in material management.

Key Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with project teams, procurement teams, suppliers, and logistics personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement: Assess current practices, processes, and tools, and formulate improvement proposals with various options for management approval. This may involve working with specialized technical resources to estimate necessary labor hours and scheduling for the development of new tools.
  • Execute improvement strategies: Partner with specialized technical resources and management to implement improvement plans by creating, developing, and/or revising processes, guidelines, and tools. Examples include the integration of automated workflows for material approvals, cancellations, and reallocations.
  • Communicate proficiently with project teams, contractors, and vendors to optimize material logistics and availability, ensuring smooth construction operations and effective information flow. This includes tracking and resolving action items.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate and engage with contractors, vendors, engineers, colleagues, and other utility personnel at a high professional standard.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to foster relationships and collaborate effectively with clients, peers, and affiliates.
  • Possess strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with a foundational understanding of corporate accounting practices and business operations.
  • Commit to developing, promoting, and adhering to safety standards set by Mesa and its clients.
  • Willingness to travel regionally as required for project needs.
