Job Overview

Custom Software Systems (Inc.) is in search of an Ab Initio Software Engineer to contribute to our client's Payroll initiative. This role involves executing data transformations, developing interfaces, creating documentation, and conducting unit tests utilizing various Ab Initio tools.

This is a hybrid work arrangement. The selected candidate will engage in the creation, integration, and deployment of innovative solutions. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining application solutions, as well as re-engineering components to align with client specifications.

The chosen individual will undertake both business and technical design tasks, contributing to the architectural components of the enterprise solution.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver payroll and human resources data integration between various external systems and PeopleSoft, including data conversion from legacy systems.
  • Formulate technical solutions to address business challenges and fulfill functional requirements.
  • Create, revise, and finalize functional and technical design specifications to meet project needs.
  • Analyze requirements, perform complex evaluations, and present options and recommendations to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Independently manage tasks related to the design and development of conversions and interfaces.
  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshoot issues identified during testing.
  • Adhere to deadlines while managing multiple, evolving priorities.
  • Provide comprehensive technical and logistical support to the program.

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing conversions and interfaces using ETL tools.
  • 1-5 years of hands-on experience with Ab Initio.
  • SAFe Certified Agilist certification is required within 60 days of employment.

Educational Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience in creating and interpreting source-to-target mapping documents.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with a strong emphasis on customer service and solution ownership.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to meet deadlines and manage multiple, shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven track record in a team-oriented setting.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, with experience in Agile SAFe Scrum Teams.

Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Ab Initio ETL Platform (plans, graphs, psets, meta-programming, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully in Agile Product Teams (APTs).
  • Experience as a data modeler or data architect.
  • Knowledge of DoDAF artifacts.
  • Experience with existing Army Payroll and Human Resources data and systems.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a strong focus on customer service and solution ownership.
  • SAFe Agilist certification.
