Job Summary

Boston Metal is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join its Operations team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and efficient operation of the company's buildings and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance tasks with third-party vendors to avoid equipment failures and extend asset lifespan.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Replace or repair faulty building equipment, fixtures, and other building components as necessary.
  • Respond to and resolve maintenance requests and issues from building occupants.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain safety equipment, such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
  • Document and report any safety hazards or compliance issues.
  • Address urgent maintenance issues, including power outages, water leaks, and system failures.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager and Office Manager to manage external contractors or vendors for specialized repair services as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inspections.
  • Track inventory levels of maintenance supplies and tools, and reorder as needed.
  • Interact professionally with building occupants to address maintenance requests and provide updates on repair status.
  • Ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some vocational training or experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related role.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance, including painting and light carpentry.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.

  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and building occupants.
  • Physical stamina to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various conditions.
  • Attention to detail in conducting inspections and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude who takes initiative with little to no supervision.
  • Organization skills to keep the workplace clean and free of clutter.
  • Ability to work in various conditions, including confined spaces and elevated heights.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency situations outside of regular working hours as needed.
