Mainframe Database Administrator

The Mainframe Database Administrator plays a critical role in the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's mainframe databases. This position requires a high level of expertise in database management systems and a strong understanding of data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement highly complex logical and physical databases
  • Lead large-scale or highly complex data/database management activities
  • Develop management policies, procedures, and standards
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and oversight to less experienced staff
  • Administer, test, and implement databases
  • Support development teams with technical and physical design, development, and maintenance of z/OS DB2 databases
  • Install, upgrade, and patch database software, agents, utilities, and options
  • Maintain test tools for managing database objects and diagnosing problems
  • Execute test and audit strategies for backup, security, and disaster recovery of databases and other systems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field
  • 7 years' experience in logical design and physical design
  • Experience with data modeling using ERSTUDIO
  • 7 years demonstrated experience leading efficiency improvements and implementation of DB policies and procedures
  • 7 years experience in DB2 z/OS database administration tasks
  • MAINFRAME SKILLS DESIRED
  • 3 years application design and 3 years COBOL, DB2, SQL, and JCL programming experience
  • 3 years experience with CA DB2 Tools
  • 3 years of VSAM File structure processing
  • 3 years of TSO/ISPF/SDSF or equivalent products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically Excel, Word, or related products
  • CICS, SAS, Syncsort, IBM Utilities, Easytrieve
  • Strong Knowledge of Agile methodology
