In collaboration with Nursing Management and the patient care team, the Patient Information Specialist is responsible for achieving optimal outcomes in customer service, excellence, communication, and medical records management.

This role requires the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, respond effectively to unpredictable situations, and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.

The Patient Information Specialist integrates these competencies into daily responsibilities to ensure that the patient care team prioritizes the well-being of patients and their families. Additionally, this role may involve adapting to changing tasks based on patient needs.


Responsibilities


• Manage incoming phone calls, directing patients and families to ensure accurate and timely communication within the department, while maintaining a positive representation of the team.

• Provide comprehensive support and clerical assistance to patients, families, staff, and community contacts, prioritizing customer satisfaction as observed by supervisors.

• Develop and execute various tasks to support staff and enhance departmental efficiency.

• Maintain departmental statistics, including updates, reports, and communications, ensuring timely dissemination to staff and management.

• Share responsibility for managing office supplies and forms to optimize resource utilization and staff time.

• Demonstrate a commitment to personal career development and competency, facilitating job satisfaction and growth.

• Assist in training new employees on support staff functions, as directed by supervisors.


Qualifications

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by secretarial coursework or relevant training and experience.

EXPERIENCE
Two to three years of administrative clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Proficiency in computer usage is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, coordination, and organizational skills.

• Ability to read and interpret computer screens, forms, and documents, following written and verbal instructions.

• Proficient writing skills, with the ability to produce clear and legible documentation.

• Competence in basic mathematical calculations and substantial keyboarding skills.

• Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment and respond to unpredictable situations with sound judgment and excellent customer relations skills.

Additional Information

Exceptional customer service skills are essential. Experience in a hospital setting and familiarity with electronic health records are preferred.
