About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Dental Assistant to join our team at Diamond Smiles Dentistry. As a key member of our clinical team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dentists in delivering high-quality dental services.

Responsibilities
  • Assist dentists with administrative and clinical duties, including preparing patients for procedures, sterilizing instruments, and setting up instrument trays.
  • Provide patient support services, including personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support.
  • Assist with dental and medical emergencies according to OSHA and office procedures.
  • Maintain CPR certification and adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist chair-side during administration of nitrous oxide and instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations, clean and polish removable appliances, and take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs.
  • Record treatment information in patient records, expose dental diagnostic x-rays, and actively provide hand instruments and materials as needed to dentists during exams and procedures.
  • Use and maintain hazard control protocols as established by OSHA and office standards, and represent the practice in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to assigned work schedule and office policies, and be able to comfortably and efficiently handle multiple deadlines and task assignments.
  • Work both independently and cooperatively in team settings, and occasionally participate in continuing education or seminars that may require travel.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed, and complete other duties and tasks as assigned periodically.
Requirements
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality to HIPAA standards, adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures, and adhere to office policy and procedures when collecting payments.
  • Be comfortable seeing and maintaining a professional demeanor and attitude while working around blood and unpleasant smells, and be detail-oriented to work efficiently in small spaces and maintain patient comfort.
  • Be flexible and understand that job duties may change from time to time, and be able to assist in other areas of the office as needed.
  • Excel in forward thinking to anticipate the needs of the doctor and patient, demonstrate active listening by giving full attention to what others are saying, and demonstrate good reading comprehension by understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills by talking to others to convey information effectively, and maintain a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner at all times.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Stand for 80% of the workday, sit for 20%, and work in a moderate noise environment with occasional exposure to nitrous oxide and x-rays.
  • Move equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 pounds, bend, twist, and position change frequently to examine and service patients, and have exceptional hand-eye coordination and control to use dental implements.
  • Interact with clients and interoffice personnel frequently, and have near vision to see details at close range for mixing and placing materials on tools and in mouths.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate, and 1 year of dental assisting experience required.
  • X-Ray Certification preferred, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and task assignments.
