Job Summary

The Indiana University Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) department is seeking a skilled Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our clinical and preventative medicine program, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to research and teaching animals on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily clinical and preventative medicine program, including weekends and after-hours on-call duties as scheduled.
  • Participate in on-call duties with other veterinary staff, assessing and treating animal health emergencies during office hours, after hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide training to investigators and research staff on dosing, blood and tissue collection, surgery, anesthesia, analgesia, humane endpoints, and clinical outcome or prognosis on clinical cases.
  • Oversee procedures being conducted on animals to ensure that the procedure is being performed correctly.
  • Ensure that appropriate forms and documentation related to clinical cases are maintained.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree
  • 2 years of experience in private clinical practice or laboratory animal science and medicine
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Indiana
  • Proficient communication skills
