Position Overview

The MRI Technologist is responsible for conducting MRI scans for evaluation and diagnosis by radiologists, ensuring that all procedures align with the organization's mission, vision, and values while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of MRI machines and related equipment, as well as information systems (RIS/HIS/PACS) utilized in these procedures. Documented competency is essential.
  • Ensure accurate identification of patients and all imaging records, including patient name, date of birth, identification number, and body orientation.
  • Coordinate MRI procedures to guarantee quality and continuity of care, which may involve scheduling inpatient, outpatient, and emergency MRI scans as required.
  • Participate in MRI emergency call duties on a rotational basis.
  • Properly archive MRI images in the PACS system.
  • Maintain precise documentation for departmental and hospital records, ensuring clarity and completeness.
  • Provide clear and compassionate instructions to patients and their families regarding the MRI process, ensuring comprehension of the procedures.
  • Screen patients for any contraindications that may pose risks to their health and safety, communicating findings to the radiologist for guidance.
  • Assist in training and orienting new staff and students as needed.
  • Engage in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within the MRI department.
  • Stay informed about the latest technical advancements, trends, and techniques in MRI procedures and equipment. Maintain necessary certifications and licenses through relevant journals, workshops, and seminars. Attend departmental meetings and educational sessions.
  • Consistent attendance is a fundamental requirement of this role.
  • Fulfill physical demands as outlined in the Physical Requirements section.

Educational Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an AMA accredited Radiologic Technology program is required.

Experience Requirements

  • Prior experience in MRI and a strong understanding of cross-sectional anatomy is preferred, with pediatric experience being advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with colleagues, patients, families, and the general public.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Board Certification is required.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
  • A current license from the State of Nebraska is mandatory.
  • ARRT registration in MRI must be obtained within two years of employment.
