About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineering Manager to lead our team in The City of Falls Church Virginia. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our sanitary sewer infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil engineering, particularly in the field of sanitary sewer planning and design. You will be expected to review public and private plans, ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and manage contracts related to planning, design, and construction of stormwater and sanitary sewer Capital Improvement Program projects.

As a Civil Engineering Manager, you will work closely with staff within the Department of Public Works and other departments to prioritize improvements and manage the City's sanitary sewer program. Your expertise in technical presentations, project management, and budgeting will be essential in communicating effectively with stakeholders and making informed decisions.

In addition to your technical skills, you will be expected to provide excellent customer service and respond to citizen inquiries and requests. Your ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • review public and private plans and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • manage contracts related to planning, design, and construction of stormwater and sanitary sewer Capital Improvement Program projects.
  • work closely with staff within the Department of Public Works and other departments to prioritize improvements and manage the City's sanitary sewer program.
  • provide technical presentations and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • respond to citizen inquiries and requests.

Requirements:

  • degree in civil engineering or related field and registration as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or ability to obtain reciprocity from the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects within 6 months of hire).
  • at least 7 years' experience in a responsible engineering position with emphasis in the sanitary sewer engineering field.
  • comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, of municipal public works and public utilities administration, planning and design.
  • demonstrated ability to review and analyze plans and specifications for construction of public facilities, formulate comprehensive operational policies and procedures, and prepare technical reports.
  • ability to write clearly and concisely.

Salary & Benefits: $99,840-$130,000 annually. The salary is competitive and based on the background and qualifications of the successful candidate.
