Position Overview

We are seeking a Maintenance Planner specializing in Piping and Fixed Equipment. This role is essential for transforming routine work requests into actionable work orders and crafting detailed job plans for maintenance operations. The Maintenance Planner will oversee the planning and scoping of routine, preventive maintenance, pre-turnaround, shutdown, and extraordinary maintenance tasks, ensuring that all activities are executed efficiently and effectively. Additionally, this position will maintain accurate equipment data within our SAP system, including the Bill of Materials (BOM). The Maintenance Planner will also manage a backlog of ready-to-execute work to maximize productivity within the plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead safety initiatives by engaging in current safety programs and ensuring active participation from maintenance technicians and contractors during daily safety meetings.
  • Adhere to the Work Order process as outlined by Marathon's Routine Maintenance Standards.
  • Define maintenance scopes and requirements, collaborating with Engineering to clarify standards and specifications.
  • Estimate labor, materials, and equipment needs for maintenance tasks, including man-hours, duration, material quantities, and associated costs.
  • Identify safety and environmental considerations necessary for the successful execution of fieldwork.
  • Verify the availability of ordered materials prior to commencing work.
  • Coordinate craft requirements involving various departments and resources.
  • Manage the SAP planner group to ensure timely processing of work requests.
  • Analyze equipment history and enhance preventive and standard maintenance procedures, including task lists and BOMs.
  • Incorporate feedback from shop foremen and technicians to improve future job plans.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of maintenance or operations experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or similar heavy industry is essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, construction drawings, and piping isometrics is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary, along with a working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Must be capable of wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and physically performing all field tasks, including climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for future visa sponsorship.
  • Travel requirements are minimal, estimated at 5-10%.
  • Willingness to work during outages, nights, and extended hours to support emergency situations is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Process Technology is preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in refining maintenance or operations, including time as a maintenance or turnaround planner, is preferred.
  • Strong skills in SAP, including Notifications, Work Orders, Scheduler, Material Masters, BOMs, and FLOC Creation, are preferred.
  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance of piping and fixed equipment within a refinery is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with welding procedures, NDE, and weld package requirements is preferred.
