Job Summary

Whirlpool Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Thermal Systems Engineer - Senior Analyst to join our team. This role will be based at our St Joseph Tech Center in Michigan.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of seal systems modules that integrate seamlessly into new or existing dryers. They will work to develop new and innovative features that delight our customers, integrating modules and seal systems components, like heat exchangers, compressors, and cooling gases across various technologies such as heat pump and condensing clothes dryers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop dry systems modules and components for dryers (seal systems components)
  • Optimize appliance drying performance through module development and parameterization
  • Support the module technology roadmaps, including complexity reduction, attribute requirements, cost, and quality
  • Understand critical module parameters that contribute to system-level attribute requirements (functional decomposition)
  • Understand the physics with a focus on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfers
  • Support new product design from concept development to execution
  • Work closely with the drying cycle development team to enable system-level performance attributes
  • Develop multiple concepts and utilize Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), design verification plans, and risk assessment tools to assist in decision-making
  • Develop new and improve existing test methods and test plans for performance validation
  • Develop and capture knowledge required to deliver module-level excellence

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years in Appliance/Consumer Goods/HVAC or Manufacturing Industry Experience

Preferred Skills and Experiences

  • 1+ years of work experience applying fundamental physics to design and analyze sealed systems
  • Master degree with related experience
  • Black Belt/Opex/Six Sigma experience
  • Strong sense of accountability and personal commitment
  • Critical thinking, issue follow-up, and resolution skills
  • Basic knowledge of Risk Management and Project Management
